How to Answer Questions (Step-by-Step)

1. Read the question first:

Before diving into the vignette, read the question to understand what you're looking for.

2. Glance at answer choices:

Quickly review the answer options to focus your attention on the relevant information.

3. Review images and labs:

If provided, glance at images and labs before reading the vignette to get a sense of the key details.

4. Read the vignette strategically:

Focus on the information relevant to the question.

​

5. Use the process of elimination:

Eliminate obviously incorrect answers and choose the best option from the remaining choices.

​

6. Watch for patterns in answer choices:

If multiple answers seem similar or convey the same meaning, they might be less likely to be correct. For example, if a question asks which option is a malignancy and most answer choices describe well-differentiated tissues (resembling the original tissue), the correct answer might be the one that describes a poorly differentiated tissue (not resembling the original tissue).
