USMLE Step 1 PASS
Before I met Dr. Yali, I had tried nearly everything to prepare for USMLE Step 1. I completed UWorld once and then again reviewing incorrect questions, purchased and watched all of Boards & Beyond, and diligently took notes across countless notebooks. I created multiple ‘Bible’ journals organized by systems, mnemonics, and memory tricks. I spent an amount of time on this that I am almost ashamed to admit—not because I lacked effort, but because despite doing everything, I still wasn’t truly understanding the material. I never intended to work with a tutor, assuming it would be financially out of reach. However, a peer I knew—who had struggled significantly with Step 1 and had severe ADHD—worked with Dr. Yali and succeeded. Seeing his progress gave me the courage to reach out.
I was nervous going into our first session, but from the beginning, Dr. Yali was patient, kind, and never pushy. Her focus was never on money, but purely on helping me succeed. We often met late at night due to the time difference, as I was living in another country, yet I genuinely looked forward to every session. With each meeting, I gained confidence, clarity, and a deeper understanding of high‑yield material—not just surface‑level facts, but the foundational logic beneath them. She helped me uncover areas where I believed I had learned concepts correctly but had actually internalized them incorrectly.
Cardiology had always been my weakest subject, even though I held a bachelor’s degree in physiology. Under Dr. Yali’s guidance, cardiology transformed into my strongest area; by my final practice exam, I scored 89%, a result I could not have imagined earlier. She explained complex topics using analogies, visuals, and logical frameworks, adapting seamlessly to my needs as a visual and highly anxious learner. Beyond content review, she taught me how to study strategically—how to approach practice exams as if they were the real thing, how to break down questions, and how to hold myself accountable without burning out. Initially, we met two to three times per week, gradually tapering to sessions every other week as my confidence and independence grew.
Dr. Yali’s mentorship extended far beyond academics. She became a confidant and a source of life guidance as I navigated studying while married, raising a toddler, and living in a country at war. She supported me through periods of intense emotional struggle and consistently reassured me that I was capable, even when I doubted myself. She was flexible, understanding, and unwaveringly supportive—even when I didn’t follow her recommendations perfectly. I trusted her deeply and cared so much about not disappointing her that I took Step 1 without telling her, afraid of emotionally burdening her on exam day. When I passed on my first attempt, it felt like a personal and academic victory made possible by her belief in me.
Through working with Dr. Yali, I found more than a tutor—I found a cheerleader who truly had my back. She is a teacher who puts her heart and soul into her students, even praying and fasting on the day they take their exams. She embodies the profound impact one educator can have, and she showed me how transformative compassionate, individualized teaching can be. One of my personal dreams is to one day travel and meet her in person (and her three beautiful cats). There are people who quietly make the world better through their dedication and care—and Dr. Yali is one of them.

USMLE Step 1 PASS
When looking for a Step 1 tutor, I sought someone with deep knowledge of the material and patience to explain concepts I didn’t understand. I believed those to be the primary qualities that make a tutor "good". Meeting with Dr. Yali opened my eyes to what a truly spectacular tutor looks like and how essential an extraordinary tutor is for succeeding with Step 1.
Step 1 is unlike any other exam and it requires more than just someone to explain concepts. In addition to her vast knowledge and infinite patience, Dr. Yali dedicates herself entirely to each of her students - she checks in often with motivational and moral support, answers questions you send throughout the week, and spends her own time reviewing the concepts you struggle with to make every session tailored to your personal needs.
Beyond this amazing support, where Dr. Yali truly shines above all other tutors is her infectious positivity, upbeat attitude, and incredibly memorable memory tricks. When starting my dedicated study for Step, I did not consider there would be days I would be so burned out that I would struggle to show up. There were days where the thought of another block of questions made me not want to open my laptop. These were the days where Dr. Yali was the biggest blessing. While the thought of spending hours with a tutor always felt heavy in the past, the hours spent with Dr. Yali were the highlight of my Step studying. Learning with her was fun and engaging, and while she addressed the concepts I struggled with, she also prepared each session with rapid review of high yield concepts we had previously gone over to bolster my confidence and lock down key concepts at the same time. When I would admit to having a bad day or a rough week, her response was always positive and supportive and she always knew how to inspire me to want to get myself back on track. I was completely unaware how essential these qualities were for Step 1.
My medical school journey was fraught with extracurricular obligations which made my studies very difficult. There were times I feared I would not be able to pass this exam. I credit my success to Dr. Yali’s steadfast support and experienced guidance.
In short, Dr. Yali treats her students like her family. She will always be there for you, and your success is her success. If Step 1 seems insurmountable and if you are concerned that you might not have what it takes to pass, I learned that a skilled and knowledgeable teacher, relentless positivity, and and an iron-clad support system is what it takes to succeed - and Dr. Yali provides all that and more.
